In den letzten Jahren hat Apple bereits etliche US-Dollar in die eigene Infrastruktur investiert. So wurde z.B. ein neues Datenzentrum in North Carolina gebaut und ein weiteres in Oregon ist in Planung. Laut Apple CEO Tim Cook ist die iCloud ein Projekt, welches über die nächsten 10 Jahre angelegt ist, und so ist es nicht verwunderlich, dass Apple die nötige Basis für die iCloud und zukünftige Web-basierte Dienste legt.
Wie nun bekannt wurden, will Apple ein weiteres Datenzentrum erbauen. Dieses Mal hat sich der Hersteller aus Cupertino Reno (Nevada) ausgesucht. Wie verschiedene örtliche Nachrichtendienste berichten, will Apple mehr 1 Milliarde US Dollar in die Hand nehmen.
Apple kommentiert wie folgt:
We hope to build Apple’s next data center in Reno to support Apple’s iTunes Store, App Store and incredibly popular iCloud services. If approved, this project would expand our presence in Nevada and create hundreds of construction jobs over the next year, plus permanent jobs at the data center which will add to our existing total of nearly 400 employees in the state.
Dabei wird Apple zahlreiche neue Jobs in die Region bringen. (via)
